How Hair Turns Blond - and Its Not What You Think ! !

One of the most common problems I get asked is . . .

"how can I get this lousy hair color out of my hair and just simply get back to something beautiful and blond?"

Seems so easy to many of you, when in fact it will be the single hardest thing you ever do to your hair. That one weak moment in the drug store, that reach for that darn 'Color-in-a-box' was where it began that treacherous slide down the hill into the pit of "no-return". You knew better . . .you knew, but you did it anyway and now you are paying.
I have written many a Post about this subject, but I continue to get numerous people every week with the same sad song, so I am trying a different approach with this post. I'm hoping if I explain why and how hair turns blond, it will make some of you see why it isn't so simple to come BACK from. Although, I will give many of you credit, many will tell me that once you discovered KILLER STRANDS, started reading and studying, you wished you would have found me just one week earlier - so that you prevented the whopping mistake. Here's hoping this explanation opens some eyes, if you have any questions at all ...you know where the comments section is. . . Mahalo

Hues That Girl? The Shampoo Train - Hair Color Removal 101

labels grey color8There a lot of you who have bought VANISH, its back-ordered & will be here later today...While you are waiting - PLEASE. . .BEGIN THE SHAMPOO TRAIN - this is the 'KC' trick (that helps you save money on the color removal process - which in a Salon can cost well over $500.)

also helps you prepare to go platinum/blond

Whoops, now what?

In order to re-do any bad color. . . the very 1st process MUST BE . . .
Removing the old color 1st & foremost....and the more you remove the better the Re-color will be !

The minute you figure out your hair color is not what you want, or is a complete misnew124take . . . the very first thing you should do? Walk into your bathroom, find the crappiest shampoo you can. Shampoo your hair and leave the shampoo in the hair for a couple hours. What we are looking for when we need to correct the wrong hair color is to begin loosening the hair color molecules that are trapped in the hair strand. As silly and simple as it sounds, one of the most common and gentle methods of fading artificial hair color is  “crappy shampoo”. It is the number one method that fades color from color to re-coloring.

Therefore it only makes sense to use it.

In hair color as in life, common sense can be your best friend.

The title of the procedure? the Shampoo Train. Why? Because it involves application after application of shampoo, while waiting for your color remover to arrive and for you to do the research needed to fix your hair color. One of the most alarming realizations I came to in listening to the women of America talk about the problems they have with getting the proper hair color ? Was not that they couldn’t afford to go to a competent hair colorist, it was that they could not “FIND ONE”! !! !! What a horrible thing to hear….Wow that was a wake-up call for me ! You will find if you read this Blog from the beginning until now, that I had completely different ideas at the beginning. I had absolutely no intentions of teaching America how to formulate their own hair color, it is hard enough to teach certified Hair Stylists how to. When I found that to be the biggest problem I changed game plans … I truly wanted to “give-back” and I felt by teaching what I knew about hair color and hair health it would probably be the most appreciated advice I could give. That’s what happens when you fall ill ( you become reflective!)

As simple as shampooing sounds it is always what I have recommended to anyone stopping by, or calling me in a panic about their hair color. It would be great if you could  use our Redken stripping  Shampoo with for that process, but if speed & panic is in the equation - - use Prell or the crappiest shampoo under your sink! Using the most gentle manner to fade unwanted color out of the hair is always the best decision so grab the shampoo wet your hair and wash those strands like they did in the old days on a ‘wash board”… rubbing your 2 hands together with strands in between. I am dead serious this is the key to getting the hair color ready to be fully removed.

SHAMPOO TRAIN
  • Wet hair
  • Cheap lousy shampoo application
  • Use plenty of shampoo
  • Scrub hands together w/ strands in-between
  • leave suds on hair, apply plastic treatment cap
  • use heat from hair dryer/sun {helps color molecules loosen}
  • leave suds on 45-60 min
  • rinse & repeat
  • up to 5 times daily
Now the modified version of the Shampoo Train for those of you that don’t want to bother:
MINI-SHAMPOO TRAIN
  • Wet hair
  • Cheap lousy shampoo
  • use plenty of shampoo
  • Scrub hands with strands in between
  • leave suds on hair while sleeping or 10 minutes
  • rinse
  • repeat daily
The Full shampoo Train is the best ……….with the mini-Train the next and obviously none… is not so good. I promise you, this step is the beginning of a safe and healthy home Hair Color Correction. This is what is used on celebs whom want the health of their hair kept in tact. As always, I am always watching out for the health of the hair. This is the single healthiest manner of removing artificial hair color ( of any type) from the hair.
The next step is using the color remover I recommend, BUT . . . the day you apply the color remover, …..about 80% end up with a decent color the other 20% will be some horrendous shade of Orange/Yellow. Depends on a million and 1 variables. So I recommend that you be prepared to re-color at time of Color Removal. In order to not make the same mistakes, this is when I hope you will take the time to read as many posts that I have written over the past 3 years that have to do with what you would like to do to your hair. Your options have been minimized but still remember - - YOU ARE LEARNING to take control of your own hair.

HellaciousHair022
Many times I will get this question, “how can I take the blond “out” of my hair . . .( for whatever reason) ?? This takes a lot of explaining . . . and there are many times, like right now, when I simply cannot figure out exactly how to explain it…its a bizarre concept. Nor can I think of one other correlation so I can compare it to something familiar for you…………….It is a fairly UNIQUE concept. You cannot take blond “out” of hair. When you are beginning with darker hair and going towards BLOND, the way you get there is NOT by putting “blond” into the hair. It is by taking your own darker pigmented hair color OUT OF YOUR HAIR, that ‘creates’ the blond. We call it, “lifting”in the hair color world which basically equals “lightening”. When I say that 30 Volume Developer “lifts” hair 2-3 levels, it means: when a particular hair color mixed with 30 volume developer is applied to your hair it will “lift”
(lighten) your hair 2-3 levels lighter than what it is.

Therefore, if you have applied this color and to achieve the blond – the process need to take your existing color out of the hair strand….in order to lighten it. Then does it now make sense to you that blond is really “not” a color….what it is, is your own hair color – lifted out of the strand. Which I hope makes it clear to you why “DURP” is so damned important.
DURP is Dominant-Underlying- Remaining-Pigment. When I explain that if you have “good DURP”, this is what I am referring to. The stages in which Levels of your hair color “leave” the hair strand can leave in a ‘good way’ or they can leave in a “bad way’. What does that

10 degrees99

depend on?............ The Lord up above !

Therefore if you were a level 7 and were headed towards a level 10B and ended up with some weird horrific level 9G…that would be what we are talking about. You did not apply a blond in order to achieve that 9-GOLD you applied a tint with a 30 volume developer that was working to subtract your own pigment from your hair strand and what happens is , it stops at some point. The color stops being “lifted” from the hair strand at a certain point, where that color stops is the blond you are left with. There fore it is NOT blond you have put “IN” to the strand, but. . . . Color (your very own pigment) that has been “lifted” out. When I refer to DURP . . . and why it is just so very very important . . . it is for this very reason that as Colorists, as Chemists, as Magicians we have no control over. The DURP you have and the blond you “become” are a total equation of God’s making!

JULY - Natural hair color Levels 101

As Colorists, and what I try very hard to teach you here . . . we try to work with your DURP and “counter” it or “enhance” it depending upon what your is. That is the making of a “manufactured blond” . . or a manufactured color of any color for that matter. I know it sounds confusing and is a bit hard to swallow, but just keep reading this post over and over . . . I promise you - - if you do, you will begin to understand the concept of hair coloring and hair coloring gone wrong.

Killer2557

When you have strong orange tones in your hair, those will be the ones that keep your hair from going to that pretty baby blond you want …so we try to use a “blue” based Blond to “counter” the orange pigments, in picking our blond. Using the new MAGMA Blondor bleach that actually bleaches and tones in one step actually tones the hair “blue” while it is lightening it. Just the fact that one entire product has put blue pigment in the mix, should show you how strong that (God-awful) orange pigment really is and why so many people end up with that horrific brassy- orange mess.

Now, once you have got the shampoo-train going on your hair to begin loosening the molecules, the next step should be to begin your research on the product VANISH.

More to come………………

Color Theory (Sounds Boring, I kno) 100% Necessary To Become Successful Crib Colorist

60% - 80% of You Come To Killerstrands In An Attempt At Fixing A Botched Hair Coloring Experience

Therefore I feel its necessary for me to teach you the tools to correct those disasters, otherwise, why be here? ! So as much as it sounds boring, Color Theory and understanding : the basics of it, is simply mandatory. It gives you the tools to be able to understand how to fix any mess on your own. What a wonderful tool for this new hobby of home hair coloring and becoming a Crib Colorist.

Primary colors are Blue, Red & Yellow and are the basic colors that make up every hair color out there (except, of course, silver/white) and that is in the order of their size of the molecule (or atomic weight - now, don't leave because I said 'atomic'....wait, hear me out)...Understanding the order and size of the primary colors shows you what happens during the lightening process when going from Level 1(black) to Level 12 (Platinum). So many of us go lighter, that is the way of the world for some reason.

When lightening, Blue is the only 'cool' primary color. Most people lean towards wanting more of a 'cool' tone to hair. I mean warm means Brass, Blorange, Gold, Reds. No one wants the first 3 that's for sure and the only way you want red, is if your goal is red hair! When Blue is added to any primary, secondary or tertiary color is is dominant. The new color will be cool....again....good. Its molecular weight (or pigment size) is the largest and BECAUSE of this, it is closest to the cuticle. Why is this bad? Because being the largest pigment means when you begin to lighten hair (even a little bit) it will be the color that is closest to the cuticle and that damn sure means it will leave FIRST! If it leaves first, there goes that 'cool' hue that we all need so much to give our hair that 'cool' tint we talked about earlier. When the hair is oxidized by the ammonia in hair color the hair expands almost immediately, the blue molecule escapes and poof no more 'cool'.

Next is Red, it is also difficult to remove and lastly the yellow which is buried deep down in the hair strand.....the most difficult of all to remove and why so many of you get stuck at Blorange (blorange is the mix of red & yellow: so you see why you get stuck there?) Gold & Brass. The yellow molecule is buried so damn deep, it pretty much always takes bleach to be powerful enough to get it out of that hair strand. See????????

When all 3 colors are in hair in equal proportions you achieve a completely NEUTRAL Blonde or Brown. You know how we all wonder why we can't have like hair like Jennifer Anniston? That is hair that has equal proportions of red, blue & yellow molecules in her hair, there are VERY FEW people that happen to be this lucky. How do I know? I colored over 15,000 heads of hair (yep, my assistants kept track). Do you know how rarely I would have someone in the chair that was a breeze to lighten?  Not even once a month. That is rare.

Secondary colors are made when you mix 2 primary colors. You mix red & Blue you make Violet. That is a secondary color. If you add the opposite of any secondary color to a hair color you are mixing you will neutralize it. For example:

If you have a bigger yellow molecule and brass has become your problem.............look across that color wheel . What color is opposite of yellow (brass) on the color wheel ? Violet...........right? ! Add Violet and you will help cancel out yellow as it is directly across from it on the color wheel. That is why you see so many violet colored shampoos including our own (BOOST & BURST - Violet Pilot).

Now, I am hoping from that you will be able to understand and pick-out any color you need to neutralize an annoying one you have in your hair color. So brass is yellow, across from yellow is Violet.

Blorange which I refer to a lot, because it is indeed a very common problem. We have calculated that Blorange is both Yellow & Orange cast that would be in your hair ....what colors would you use to counteract Blorange? Blue & Violet (check out the wheel).

Understanding these basic theories is mandatory if you want to take control over correcting your hair color or planning your hair color and having positive results.

How Do I Correct My Mess... or ...Color Correcting & Hair

Why, When, How, Who About Color Correction

Every Hair Color procedure you do is unique and along that same line can create unique problems. Most Hair Stylists and most of you want to believe that there is a ROCK-SOLID guide to the formulation for every hair color application.......well, there just > is not, nor will there ever be.
If I took 5 separate women - with virgin hair (never colored or chemically straightened) Level 7 (light brown), with the exact same: shoulder length - straight hair and used them as hair models. We mixed your and my favorite > high-lift: Schwartzkopf 12.19 +Framesi booster PLUS 40Volume violet developer . . applied it to all 5 of them (in the exact same manner) --  processed them in a warm room for 75 minutes.......all 5 would turn out different !!
Why?

These factors are completely different on all 5 of the girls, even though you cannot see them.
  1. DURP - Dominant Underlying Remaining pigment
  2. condition of hair
  3. (PET) Porosity of the hair
  4. (PET) Elasticity of the hair
  5. (PET) Texture  of hair
  6. Natural Base ( within every Level of hair color is variations)
  7. Existing tint
All of the 5 factors effect and contribute to the end result. All 5 of those factors will make each one of those 5 girls end up with a different tone of blond, 1 will most likely be brassy (so more would need to be done to hair) - while 1 will be absolutely striking and the most beautiful blond you've ever seen - the other 3 will be varying shades in the middle.  As far as most of you are concerned: you really only need to figure out your own contributing factors and deal with those.

You hair stylists out there . . .its just a matter of experience and the amount of heads you color.  That is what makes a "GREAT" Hair Stylist... one that has learned how each & every one of his/her individual clients hair reacts to hair color. So when they come in to go to lighter in the Spring you can address that without trouble and then go darker in the fall - all care free.

colorist9For you Crib Colorists, all you have to learn is how your own hair reacts to hair color...which really shouldn't take that long. Remember, if you are making a purchase you may ask me questions if you get in a pinch.

Corrective Hair coloring is a subject that can be terrifying to many hair stylists. Many hair stylists don't and won't tackle it. I have found in small towns, there may not be even 1 and that is one of the reasons I started Killerstrands, to help you. Even here in southern California we are full of a billion little towns. Within every town there are usually 40-50 Salons, with 1 or 2 emerging as the "it" Salon, within one of those 2 Salons there should be 2-3 Hair Stylists that can really "cut" hair. . and then another 1 or 2 holding the "Best Colorist" Title. Ask around........there should be one if your scared to try it your self, but you really wouldn't believe how simple is. I have it broken down in steps now I have been doing it so long.

I, fortunately or not ?!?! was the color correction specialist for Malibu for 13 years. Being an expert at color correction can be both a blessing and a curse. Yes, you receive  top dollar for it, but it also can take days - - depending on the damage or amount of boxed hair color used. I suppose its why I am so opinionated about the pitfalls of boxed hair color - - I spent all those years - - helping people out of the messes they created due to the fact that the company's that make those Boxed Color make it seem like you will have beautiful - perfect color. Something that is so far from the truth.

That was tough, they came in looking for empathy and that was a very hard emotion for me to muster up. Back then I rarely watched TV, I didn't really know how bad and misleading the advertising is, I guess that's why people buy it. Now I know and I am more sympathetic.

I had so many friends that were just so happy to give their hair color correction cases to me, even people I didn't know would send me their clients all the time.... I'm sure it's still that way in all the cities and towns around you. Color correction is a very difficult subject.... there are no hard and fast rules, there is no "Book of Hair Color Correction Rules" . . .you have to use your experience to conquer it . We try to uncover what has been covered up on your hair. It takes a seasoned, experienced and patient Hair Colorist to tackle this subject successfully.

The reason the color correction is so expensive?
  • usually need multiple steps to "fix" the color
  • conditioners are essential along the way
  • Fillers are most often required
  • expertise as a colorist is challenged and valued
As with regular color formulations, you must consider the 3 contributions for the end result:
  1. Hair
               a. Base
               b. Goal
    2.   Color
    3.   H2 O2

If hair is damaged or even questionable, you should proceed slowly. Don't take chances. Using deep conditioners (Thriven) along the way. What the hair is missing after old color is removed? LIPIDS.....the only way to restore lipids is to apply oils from nature, such as Gleam....lipids are what give hair shine !

COLORING  OVERPOROUS  HAIR
Uneven porosity can cause an uneven result, because over-porous hair accepts artificial pigment differently. There are different ways to compensate for over-porosity:
  • Lipid-Replacement: I have discovered on my own how darn important replacing those lipids from 18 yrs experience. Gleam has NO silicone's, it is very hard to find another oil like that, I have not found one in all these years, your hair DOES NOT WANT silicone's - which is what all the other products have in them. Read the labels !.
  • INTENSIVE : I have created a unique product called INTENSIVE (because that's what it is) it IS Intensive ! It has ingredients that will work with your hair and even out the porosity, many use it as a daily conditioner but it truly was made for Color Correction. No one makes one and I don't have any idea -- why?
  • the formula: intensify the formula, make warmer, & use a lower volume developer. 10 Volume is usually ideal. Semi-Permanent color or Demi-Permanent  & no ammonia color are great choices.  Because they deposit & don't lift). When lightening - don't use ash.
  • how you apply : hair can be dampened with water a little, or with INTENSIVE - to help equalize it
  • processing time adjusted: shorten the time, over-porous hair processes very fast
Over-porous hair tends to reject warmth and accept ash. The more over porous it is, the more it selects out warmth and grabs ash, which is called "abused rejected".
I can not say this enough: " STRAND TEST  -  STRAND TEST  -  STRAND TEST ! "

COLOR  FILLERS

Color Filler :  a hair-coloring product or formula used to pre-pigment previously lightened or over-porous hair, replacing missing underlying pigment (DURP), compensating for over-porosity and preparing the hair for even acceptance of whatever hair coloring follows. Color Fillers are always warm.

Does that make sense to most of you? I get asked about Fillers all the time, they make so much sense to me . . . but when I look at people's puzzled faces when trying to teach them to other Stylists - even . . .I am fairly certain that most of you probably do not understand what they are. Am I right?
How do you know what color to fill with? They are slightly lighter than the underlying pigment of the color you want to achieve, depending on the tonal result desired, porosity and the product used.  So there is no "one color" to use when filling the hair.
Conditioner Fillers - I use these to help recondition damaged overly porous hair. . . this way the conditioner/lipids ( from the oils) can be replaced while the color is working and has the cuticle OPEN, remember there is no other time this happens.

Apply Gleam + Thriven + the filler . . . is just the prefect way to even the porosity - fill the hair & repair the lost lipids all at the same time.

Color Fillers - in today's world . . .Semi & Demi-permanent colors are used for filling. The Wella Color Touch Line is used by many Colorists, for the longest time they were the only company that had a Demi line. Colorist today. Its the most wonderful line, of Demi permanent colors, it contains the perfect amount of deposit, smells nice, imparts more shine than almost any line of hair color I have experienced . . . its a line of hair color. Which you can get in our store.
There are just a million and one reasons to use the Color Filler. Using color Fillers has several advantages:
  • deposits color to faded ends and hair shaft
  • helps hair to hold hair color
  • prevents streaking & dull appearance
  • prevents off color results
  • produces more uniform, natural looking color in a tint
  • produces uniform color when doing a tint-back
Fillers are most often used for blondes returning to their original brunette base.
Picture a Level 11-12 . . .  something like this:

level 11 - KKKKK

who is tired of her look and she wants so go back to her original color  - a level 5 B, one of my favorite colors . . .

level 5 -eee

This is a perfect example of the most common reason for filling hair. See the Level 10 . . . in order to get it to the Level 5 . . . what is missing?
Warmth.  It is a completely blank canvas, all the color is gone, it has been removed . . . because in this case if you had warmth it would be deemed 'brassy'.

So, in order to get it to this Level 5 - Light Brown - the goal. . .one must fill-IN (where the "filler" name came from) the missing warmth. In hair color, warmth means: reds, golds, oranges, yellows.  Therefore (depending on all the factors we talked about above) Kenra actually has 3 colors that are made to "fill hair" ...finally someone GETS IT ! ! !

First:  Apply Gleam/Thriven to all the hair strands - then apply the filler formula for 20 minutes,. , , which is half the timing of normal hair coloring. Rinse: and be ready for a shocker - - - the hair will be a lovely shade of shocking orange.

But you cannot say it does, not have a warmth!  After the filler Apply INTENSIVE for 10 minutes and then the desired color  .
There you have it - - -  fillers du jour . . .

Hair Feel Like Straw? Damaged Hair Repair

Whoops so sorry..........
I wrote the title then got completely distracted....
So ANYWAY.............

Lately we have had quite a few woman go through this wonderful transformation and I had no idea I had not talked about it in a long long time. What happens when you use boxed hair color or Sally's hair Color is a very low grade of hair color that has less than desirable ingredients in it gets deposited on the hair strands and for some reason slowly works on them to begin to feel like sand almost. Feel your hair right now....does it feel soft and shiny....does it blow in the wind like it should? The people who have used this low grade color start to have their de-grade over a very long and slow process. . .  it is so slow and so low, that they don't notice it right away. It takes about 2 years minimum for the person to wake up to the fact that their hair ...no longer....feels like hair any more.

I have never quite figured out why Boxed Color/or Sallys Color doesn't act or react like good professional hair color....I have tried for nearly 9 years now to get everyone I can to change over to professional hair color. What you will experience when you do take this adventure in removing the old hair color ........ in and of itself will be exhilarating to you.......BEFORE you even 're-color" your hair you will be thrilled at how your hair feels. Your hair will feel like it hasn't felt since you were young ......once you go through this.

I have so many women go through this, that I get used to all the wonderful comments, but every once in a while...one woman's story stands out that it hits me like a train and I remember it is time to go over the process to you, the public, once again.

Now it is not that expensive of a process I don't believe for the joy and pleasure you will get out of this. Currently we have a Group ( that you may join if you wish - its less than $1.00/daily) and in this group a number of the women have gone through this process I am going to lay out....
These woman keep talking about how they haven't felt their hair feel as it does now since they were in high school, etc... and that is what woke me up to the fact that it was now time to review the process to the public.

Here is your shopping List:

  • 1 King Size bottle of the cheapest lousiest SHAMPOO that HAS SULFATES in it !
  • 1 dozen plastic caps - minimum ( that we will give you with any order over $25.00)
  • 4-6 Malibu 2000 Color Correction Packets
  • 2 boxes of VANISH - Hair Color Remover from our site - yes it is pricey - but the miracles it performs are worth every teeny-tiny Cent. I would highly suggest you purchase the VANISH KIT  - otherwise you will have to drive all over town to get the items yourself in order for VANISH to work correctly. VANISH IS NOT FOR BLEACHED HAIR. DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE BLEACHED HAIR. In each Vanish box is 2 applications so you will have 4 applications of Vanish - TOTAL !
  • INTENSIVE - which you will need after each VANISH application and prior to all hair color and or after all hair color, in Intensive is a porosity equalizer, evens out the pH level.
  • Gleam ...Unique Oil we make with 15 ingredients (ZERO silicones only oils & Vitamin E's) and truly reboots your hair into being the hair of your dreams, the only oil on the market that does NOT have silicone's in it. Therefore it replenishes the lipids that are missing from the lower quality hair color you have been using in the past.
  • Lastly....THRIVEN - A deep OVERNIGHT Conditioner, + the information that you will need to buy to purchase the Secret Supplement. Once you purchase 60 of those, take 1 a day for minimum 60-90 days, those 2 items will be the magic that is not on the marketplace anywhere. This product is always in our top 3 sellers and will replace the life and vitality to your hair that has never been found in another product on the market place.. You will sleep with this in once a week and your hair will be REVIVED and you will have the hair of your youth with this Protocol.
Now the 1st process is to take that lousy shampoo and perform something I call the shampoo train. Where you shampoo the hair in your kitchen sink for about 5 minutes....scrubbing the hair's end and lengths with your 2 hands for another 5 minutes.....you really want to try to get that shampoo INSIDE your hair strands. Then you will LEAVE the SHAMPOO ON YOUR HAIR for a few hours which is why you need the plastic bags. The plastic bags will generate heat and make the shampoo work deep inside your hair strands to help loosen the hair color. Why do we do this? Because the people who do not do the Shampoo Train must use 3-4 sometimes 5 boxes of VANISH, which makes it get very expensive. The Shampoo Train eliminates multiple boxes of VANISH. So I suggest doing this step with Vim and Vigor.

Next Step will be applying the Malibu2000 Color Correction packets in between some of the
shampoo Trains to help eliminate and loosen up the old color molecules... So Do a Shampoo Train or 2 - then do 1 Color Correction packet..

Some people like to get this all over with and you can do this all in 3-4 days, but it will be all you do.
So I suggest you spread it out over a week or 2. It really is up to you but you will notice a little bit of change at each step and that is what will make you go to the next step so you can increase the softness and shine of your hair.
After each VANISH box.

If you have any questions or you want to others stories you can always join the group, if its even for a month the info you learn and get to listen to is priceless I'm sure you feel.

Your hair will feel like silk and blow in the wind like satin.....when you are finished with this. I can't wait to hear even more stories i NEVER ever GET TIRED OF THEM.....

Might As Well Strip & Re-Color Your Hair .......Being As The Govt.Is Going To Close Up

OR
Can You Tell I Was Watching John Stewart Last Night?
if you don't watch John Stewart you must

#1 Quick Method of Stripping and Re-Coloring Lousy Hair Color, in other words a Quick-Fix
Stripping hair color is a weirdly worded "topic", because I don't really call it stripping hair color in the manner in which I approve doing it.

It is REVERSING Hair Color. Reversing BAD Hair Color;
I admit it is very time consuming using VANISH and you can kind of go around it now with IGORA ROYAL & Wella's Illumina. . But when I started writing this Blog there were many people who could not afford VANISH...pretty much anyone can afford the Color Correction packet & do the Shampoo Train...while you save up to purchase Vanish...you can be doing this. I promise - IT WORKS ! !

Of all the Treatment Packs this one is Great for alternating with VANISH -- when trying to get old syrupy mollasses-y Boxed Hair Color out of the Hair.   Now the Shampoo Train experience comes from trying to take actors who wanted different colors all the time ...and do it safely and gently so this is my own little treatment that stems from my training at Sassoon... it works well. There is the wonderful Color Remover called VANISH we recommend. But, doing any hair color process, even removing your color is just not healthy to do every day or every week. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of room to play...and we will go into all the ways when someone poses a question they want answered.
The last trick for stubborn color

Using the Malibu2000 Color Correction packet !   + Intro  to KC's "Shampoo Train"
This packet is the one I recommend to so many of you who end up here at Killerstrands in hopes of repairing and re-coloring your old horrible hair color or/ Sallys horrible ION Hair Color (which destroys hair) or Boxed Hair Color. You must get  those types of hair color OUT-OF-YOUR-HAIR, first so you have a stripped down base ! !
    1. Do the very best you can to REMOVE the old DULL Hair Color by applying 1-2-3 packets of this.
    2. Purchase the Travel Hair Dryer as it works even better with the heat ....... it will work 4X as well !
    3. Use Cheap PRELL Shampoo or the cheapest lousiest shampoo you can find under the sink to remove your old dull hair color .........then when you have a nice clean faded BASE.............
    4. Use one of 2 Hair Colors either ............SCHWARTZKOPF IGORA ROYAL or ESSENSITY..........both add so much Shine or
    5. Wella ILLUMINA ..........this line works great as well but focus' on Level 5 thru 10 ONLY!
it is about the toughest project you can take on in Hair Color - there almost always is one "Hair-Color-Correction Specialist in every town. But I have taught thousands of people to strip and re-color your hair...............
Stripping is what is so important to the Re-coloring portion of the process.

This is my favorite packet for Strip and Re-Coloring the hair, if you truly cannot afford  VANISH

The Color Correction  particular packet is used for a multitude of applications, let me pin-point the important ones:
    • old hair-color removal
    • mistake's in hair color
    • Shampoo Train step
    • Prepping hair for NEW color
    • Remove 'many' of various Krazy Kolor brands
    • removes chlorine, metals, build-up - prior to coloring ANY color
As the title says it helps Correct hair color mistakes...sometimes not completely... but it loosens the molecules in your attempt to remove hair color undesired.  I have been using these packets for 15 years, they make such a difference in both coloring results AND in the health of your hair....they are very reasonably priced and we include a Cap with ours free of charge ... they work much better if used with cap - the cap helps generate heat on the head for optimum results. This tip and trick has been kept hush-hush for many years, from the head Colorists at V.Sassoon. The difference it makes in the coloring of your hair is wonderful. You may use this packet as well as any in the Malibu 2000 line to keep the metals & gunk in all water now, out of your hair. Many people love the light and clean feeling of their hair. Try one, you'll see.
The Shampoo Train is my little cute (effective) trick for helping change hair colors semi-often. Depending on the procedure of course, and I remind you - everyone is different.                              The SHAMPOO TRAIN  goes like this :
Purchase or use that one bottle of sulfate-shampoo you have hiding in your cupboard or you purchase one at the drug/grocery store.. You are only using it for this one process so there is nothing to worry about. Then as frequently as you can : shampoo the hair ferociously (not scalp - just hair strands!) -- being sure to spend 4-5 minutes -- scrub - scrub - scrubbing ! ! scrub the hair in your hands with a back & forth scrubbing action - like a washboard almost. The last step is to either:
    •  leave the shampoo on the hair  for 30-45 minutes with a cap or
    • if you are really trying to have it work fast... you will need the heat of a Hair Dryer... and dry it for 15-20 minutes.
    • Now you may do this procedure 4-5 times in one day or over the course of  1-2-3 weeks - its all completely up to you and how big your project is. ..... and all these applications are why the "train' reference.......... as it just keeps going and going !
    • This is the description of the most radical Shampoo Train  - - then you may condense it down to your situation ! OK? Get it? Questions? Use the FEEDBACK buttons in the store.
Now, the most inexpensive/compact version of a blow dryer was this little Dryer system you see ( click it to purchase).....They come in silver & black -- so don't expect any particular color.....but they last a long time and work well for this and a multitude of things. * dry velcro curlers * deep condition with Thriven or you deep conditioner * Hot Oil Treatment with Gleam * Heat up your hamburger !! j/k......you watch all the reasons you find for this! . . .

Everyone tells me they love it - - - we carry this great compact version in the store for this and for deep conditioning which you should do when completed with this entire procedure PLUS use INTENSIVE to save the pH.  This contraption turns a blow dryer into a hood dryer - they fly out of here because they work for a multitude of hair applications. After that you  shampoo.  What this does is loosen the color molecules that are lodged in your hair.
OR... If you are having problems lightening a color a little that way ...then you next add this Color Correction packet, do the complete application as stated on the packet....then the shampoo train -- then the Color Correction packet -- and back to the Train and on and on.... one then the other... and for the perfect Color Removal process you would Shampoo Train for a few days in a week ....Isn't it funny... so many of us color our hair and do everything possible to get it to stick and stay in the hair.. now here we are trying to get that same color out ! !
The advantages of the Shampoo Train procedure are :
    • lessens the amount of Vanish you have to use
    • Most Gentle method of shaking up molecules you plan to remove
    • Boxed hair Color can be next to impossible to remove, this helps the process not cost so much.
So, if you need to do the most 'thrifty process' available buy 1-2 packets of Color Correction, hop on the Shampoo Train and follow that.....and you will be well on your way to new hair color !
