Many years ago KC was completely frustrated in the fact that she
could never find a conditioner that actually worked. They say they'll
work - they spout all this BS language that makes you think you better

( yes there is a $500.00 hair conditioner) and was never close to being satisfied. After being diagnosed, she decided to study Cosmetic chemistry
on the web to keep her mind busy.
So she set out to figure out how
& why these products work --- and then maybe figure out WHY they
don't work. Hell, our scientists can fly to the Moon and back, but they
can't even truly condition & de-tangle our hair, she just did not get it !
So what began as a one month project - - turned into 2 years of deep
intense study and camaraderie with a small unique set of people in the

Essential fatty acids play a primary role in the structure of the
hydro-lipid layer and are an important part of GLEAM.
What is the Hydro-Lipid Layer?
The
hydro-lipid layer is composed of hydro (water) and lipids (fats) which
form a thin emulsion that coats the hair and skin of mammals to keep
both hydrated and in optimum condition. It is infused into the keratin
of the hair’s cuticle as it’s formed in the follicle and the outer
surface is continuously replenished via secretions from the sebaceous
glands. This delicate barrier is comprised of essential fatty acids,
ceramides, tryglicerides, cholesterol and water. Essential fatty acids
comprise a greater part of the lipid layer and contribute to
hair’s elasticity and aid ceramides in keeping the cuticle scales
attached to the hair strand.
What Happens When the Hydro-Lipid Layer is Lost?
The
hydro-lipid layer provides two primary functions; hydration and
protection (which shows in the 'shine' and condition of the hair. It’s on the outside of the hair shaft forming a film, and it’s also present within the cuticle layer. It is a
permeable lining that allows for the uptake of water but it also is
occlusive enough to slow the evaporation of moisture from the shaft.
Lubrication is another function of this layer which prevents cuticles
from lifting or snagging on other surrounding hair strands.
When the
hydro-lipid-layer is damaged, the hair loses a
vital source of moisture, the cuticle scales are exposed to mechanical damage and other trajedies, and the vital cement
that holds cuticles in place is compromised.
The following loss and damage
of the cuticle layer leaves hair porous, rough, zero gloss or
elasticity and vulnerable to breakage.
Common Causes of Lipid Depletion
Lipid Depletion can be accelerated by your grooming activities that many of you consider to be a normal part of their routine. Shampoos that contain strong sulfates and a high pH are at the top of the list of culprits in the destruction of the lipid coating.
I've tried for 20 years to get everyone off of sulfates, I feel they should be banned.
, sulfates
function by rendering oil water miscible so that it can be removed from
the hair and scalp. A shampoo that is intended to be mild, gentle or
moisturizing will still operate this way but will not
strip the hair and scalp bare of all its essential fats. Without proper
protection, chemical treatments like hair coloring/ relaxers can
damage or completely dissolve lipids from the hair shaft. One of the reasons I really try to push everyone to apply GLEAM prior to the actual hair coloring process - after continuous use, you will begin to notice a distinct difference.
Not using an oil like GLEAM opens the hair up to vital lipids being removed from the surface of the cuticle layer as well as from in
between the cuticle scales, weakening the natural cement that holds
them to the hair shaft. The constant application of high heat to
the hair is also a common cause of damage to the hair’s protective
barrier. again - applying GLEAM to the hair prior to drying is just one more way to keep your hairs health & shine intact !
Care and Maintenance of the Hydro-Lipid Layer
The
easiest way to maintain this vital portion of the hair is to minimize
or eliminate hair styling practices that place it in jeopardy. If you
routinely undertake actions that compromise the lipids in your hair, be

In this post we explore how to understand and care for, the typical range of hair and scalp types.
The sebaceous gland plays an important role in determining hair and
scalp type.
The production of sebum is a natural process that adds
strength and lustre to the hair strand.
However, diet, blood circulation, emotional distress and drugs and the
aging process can all influence production. Salon products are designed
specifically to compliment individual needs and work toward producing
strong, healthy, naturally beautiful hair. Hair and Scalp types fall
into the following broad categories:
Oily
Over-active sebaceous glands produce an excess quantity of sebum, which
can make hair limp and lank. This may be due to hormonal changes, often
evident during puberty or menopause. Many people have a naturally oily
scalp, which can result in greasy hair. Fair hair is much finer than
dark hair, hence is more susceptible to excess oil.
High quality - SULFATE-FREE shampoos cleanse without stripping the hair of essential moisture and nutrients.
Dry
Dry hair looks dull and lifeless and is also more susceptible to
breakage. Dry hair can only be stretched 15% of its overall length
before breaking, while healthy hair can be stretched up to twice this
amount, more when wet! A common cause of dry hair is dehydration; water
retention can measure between 4 and 13% of overall hair volume.
A change in lifestyle can make all the difference, and there are many
products available to help nourish the cortex and smooth

Normal Hair
Normal hair is shiny, supple and good looking and is the result of a
well-balanced, healthy lifestyle, combined with good hair care using the

Mixed Condition
Over-active sebaceous glands and poor scalp condition may create a glut
of sebum; this can be absorbed back into the scalp, preventing essential
oils from traveling the length of the hair strand. The scalp in this
condition is a common cause of Pityriasis steatoides.
Pityriasis steatoides
is more severe case of
dandruff characterized by an accumulation of greasy or waxy scalp
scales, mixed with sebum, that stick to the scalp to the scalp in
crusts. When accompanied by redness and inflammation the medical term is
seborrheic dermatitis, which I have seen GLEAM cure more than a dozen
times, along with the Scalp Scrub and the Malibu Scalp treatment pack.
. Mixed condition
hair types have dry, frizzy ends that are prone to breaking, with oily
roots. In this scenario application techniques are very important when
applying products to ensure the problem area is targeted.

so this week we are going to talk about GLEAM....
it is GLEAM week
UP UNTIL NOW i HAVE NOT WANTED TO GIVE OUT THE INGREDIENTS OF gleam AND MY PRODUCTS BECAUSE EVERYONE COPIES MUCH OF WHAT I DO.
I REALLY GET SICK AND TIRED OF COMPANIES NOT COMING UP WITH THEIR OWN PRODUCTS AND THEIR OWN IDEAS with INGREDIENTS and combinations of ingredients that TRULY WORK ON HAIR.
Its not that hard,
if I can do it
many of these companies who spend millions on R & D (Research & Development) can do it !. None of these companies think "outside-of-the-box" is what I feel is the most common problem. They design products after one product happens to become a hit.
For example: Argan Oil.
I'm sure many of you remember when you had never heard of that oil. Now, it is in every single product on the cosmetic shelves - as they always do, they have drilled it into the ground where it doesn't mean much anymore.
Do you know that a company can put 1/2 of 1 % out of the 100% of the ingredients in a formula and they can claim it is an ARGAN Oil product. 1/2% would be so little that it would not make any difference to the product and it would not help AT ALL, it simply is not enough to do anything to hair or skin.
Well, 10 years ago we had Gleam.... it wasn't as good as it is today because I became much wiser about the use of lipids and then I spent one full year studying all types of oils.
I spent a couple years studying oils and ingredients that were supposed to help hair and then I began playing around with them on all various hair types I had in my chair. I was lucky that all the people would take oils home experiment with them and then come back and tell me how they had worked in their hair or not....
So instead of just reading in a book which oils "might" work on hair.......I spent all that time asking people which oils they liked .................changed the combinations around and then decided I didn't need to use cheap oils - the only way to get people's hair truly repaired would be to use the best oils - which just happened to be the most expensive oils.
I actually had clients of mine test oils I had sent home with them for a month or longer.... Normal Cosmetic chemists who come up with a new hair product......or a hair oil, they sit in a lab.............read a book that suggests a list of Oils - then they create a hair product according to what the boss of a hair product company wants them to make.
You know how there are a million and 1 Oils - like products out there right now??? and they all think that combining oils with silicone's is the only way people, like you, like them....?
Well, a very long time ago I whittled the list of oils that were truly GOOD-FOR-THE-HAIR down to a list of about 8 or 9. Which is what has ended up being in GLEAM. It may seem like a lot of different ingredients, but I truly feel the combination of oils as the product is....is the reason for such success with GLEAM.
I learned from helping my manager of the Group that I had never even told her one of my trickiest secrets for repairing hair : when damaged from either:
- bleaching
- the sun
- over-proccessing
- over-lapping
- wrong product used
- boxed hair color
- etc....
but when you have hair that feels fried. . . .damaged. . . .frizzy and/or just plain yukky. Take Gleam and apply a LOT to the area of damaged hair, the ends, or wherever you need to repair your hair - apply a metallized cap (to create warmth) & process for as long as possible. The longer the better. . Apply it to DRY hair.....and as much as you can spare, the caps ( creates heat ) - which helps the product soak in deeper. Now either sleep with it in or leave in for at least 6 hours. April, my Group manager did a brilliant thing and braided her hair with her hair: soaking in Gleam. After she went from Dark Brown hair to Platinum..( and had gone back and forth for years before that )....well - you can imagine the result I'm sure...

Gleam is a very special bottle of oil if you ask me. The manner in which a cosmetic chemist makes a personal care product for the public, was taught to me by a pretty famous cosmetic chemist who taught cosmetic chemistry to those of us who were 100% fascinated by the process about 9-10 years ago at the beginning of the INTERNET.... He was ahead of his time and was a french man named Maurice who did what I am doing only with the field of Cosmetic Chemistry.....we were all so privileged to get to learn from him. He didn't make it through that last year, but I suppose he died doing what he loved. He just opened up all his knowledge and taught a few dozen of us the correct manner in which to make "PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS". Which includes :
- shampoo
- soap
- conditioner
- lotion
- cream
- lip balm
- liquid soap
- mineral make-up
- etc.............this is what a cosmetic chemist makes
I happened to spend the first few months studying oils, as I read a lot of European magazines having to do with hair and trichology ( which is the study of hair and its health). I even tried to become a licensed Trichologist ! I actually did all the work....the only thing I didn't do was the formality of taking some ridiculous test that was over $1,000. just to take the test. I thought that was such a scam.....just so I could attach a little sticker to the name of my store....Basically that was all that you received. Not one other thing, or at least that was all I could figure out! !
Just like recently I wanted to join this " WOMEN WHO OWN SMALL ONLINE BUSINESSES" Group....because I had just received a letter saying Killerstrands had become one of the TOP 1% of ONLINE Businesses that began in 2006. Which I was quite proud of....but to join this silly little group is a couple thousand dollars ! They are missing the part that says "SMALL BUSINESS"... I think.and missing the concept that we are not huge companies that can drop thousands on joining a club, with no apparent redeeming qualities. Just seems odd to me so I declined............of course I could pay it.......but truthfully, you get nothing for that $2 Grand... but the ability to slap a little sticker on that says I am a member of it....... which seems to me, it is doing the opposite of what it is preaching.
So, I hope you will try Gleam, it is 100% returnable if you are not happy but I truly do not think that will happen, it is a gem of a product...

and a wonderful Amber scent that takes me 2 months to make from soaking /amber blocks in Argan Oil !
Even if you you only have frizzy ends or split ends - you will notice a difference when using GLEAM, the reason it creates such change in the hair is because I chose NOT to add a single drop of Silicone to it. Silicone's are great for (making your profits higher.....as silicone's are super cheap, and to me and those who know, they are used as a "filler" not because they are a better ingredient than any carrier oil which is what they try to lead you to believe, but I promise...the silicone's they use are just very cheap fillers and they look and feel like oils so they can get away with it....unless a big giant explanation like this POST is made, which most people would never take the time to to do !

I've been asked about Soap Caps for years....at the beginning when the web was new and I was the only one educating the public on professional techniques........ for some odd reason a couple people screwed them up and I felt forever responsible.....when that happens I always delete the Post and make note in my file for Topics : TO NEVER-EVER DISCUSS !
But with all the info out there now, I'm sure someone has hit on that topic a lot of times.... but, Alas - - - - here is the Sassoon description of how and why to do one.
Lets say you are in our Group and learning how to color your hair the correct way. You have done all my recommendations for your predicament to remove all or most of your old hair color -- prior to beginning your new formula and proper hair color application. Your hair begins to feel light as a feather and most every single person says to me, " wow I didn't realize how junked up my hair was, its starting to feel like normal hair again - it feels so light and soft " ! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard that exact sentiment.... (or a light variation of it for 9 years & hundreds of Consultations).
So now you are ready to re-Color with your new formula.
Once you re-color, you will color all the hair the first time ...meaning all the hair
Then every 5-6 weeks all you will have to do is re-color the base (roots).
You process the roots 60 minutes so at 60 minutes you do a professional trick which refreshes the color on your lengths called the SOAP CAP - ( a term that I have always disliked. It doesn't make sense in my head. It may to you - but not me)
Now you may only have to do a Soap Cap every other time, I only do it 3 times a
year but I have so much hair + being sick -- makes it very hard... so
it should be a breeze for all of you.
The trick is what we call a Soap Cap. When it gets to 50-55 minutes of processing the straight color on your roots or the entire hair (the 1st time) this is how you will start. First.............
- with gloves on
- take all the hair and flop it down in the kitchen sink
- mush it all together on top of head, using save movements as if you are shampooing hair .
- Once all smushed together
- take a 1/4 Cup of bottled water, pour over entire head.......where Color is mainly
- sprinkling every where. . . . lightly. . . til gone
- begin shampooing the color/water mixture together = this forms a colored lather - making sure you get all hair in the heavy lathery mix.
- Cover with plastic Cap (which you may request with hair Color orders)
This is the SOAP CAP. Now let that soapy-Colorful hair mix sit & process for 5-10 minutes.
- water and rinse
- thoroughly...meaning 4-5 minutes longer than you think, there should be ZERO feel of any hair color goop at all in hair.... it should be squeaky clean
- Shake excess water out of hair, apply Killerstrands INTENSIVE,
- pH Balancer & locks in color - the longer you can leave this on the better - I try to plan either leaving INTENSIVE OR THRIVEN on over night after coloring ....sleeping with a Terry Turban or Sleep cap. I'm telling you if you do that you will be so damn impressed with your hair color and so will everyone else.
- If you have loads of damage then leave GLEAM on braid the hair and leave it on overnight. APRIL the manager for the Group recently went from black hair to Platinum and her hair really took a tole. I sent her some Gleam and after trying Intensive and Gleam overnight, which helped a LOT............IN one night she said her hair felt completely back to normal after using Gleam and she wondered why I never wrote a post about the wonders of GLEAM - OVERNIGHT ??? Gleam truly works miracles because hair is made of lipids and Gleam is 100% lipids with every single addition strengthening hair...
- aloe vera oil
- 2 Vitamin E's
- Chamomile extract.................its just the bomb.....if you have damaged hair,

- but back to the subject ! !
Now refreshing the ends when you only Re-touch the roots -every 5-6 weeks goes as follows:
- Re-touch the hair by only coloring NEW-growth with color. Then
to do the Soap Cap....... Again you can re-fresh the ends with new hair
color - only when needed.
- At 55 minutes of color processing the new-growth
- Flop hair in sink
- Take a 1/2 Cup of bottled water - sprinkle on hair color
- Begin smooshing all together.......the color with the water added will lather, which is what you want
- work into lather adding a little more water to mixture if needed
- the least amount of water the better, it should feel like a very
heavy lather
- smoosh together and pile on top of head & clip.
- Apply plastic or shower cap
- Process 10 minutes
- Rinse with water - no shampoo for 2 days - there are cleaning agents in all hair color for this exact purpose.
- Shampooing anytime in the first 48 hours will fade new color substantially. Do NOT do it. Your hair will feel clean
- Always follow with "Killerstrands INTENSIVE" a pH balancer and color lock and you become "GOLDEN" !
Of course the conditioner works complete miracles, but if you use
both you will be writing me an email . . . I never hear enough of those
!
